Elective International provides mentors for each of our elective programs held in Malaysia. These include placements in medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, midwifery, and dentistry. Participants have variety of options for the type of locations in which they wish to be placed. Penang Medical College situated in the district of Penang, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, in the city of Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak General Hospital in the district of Sarawak. EI mentors are carefully selected. They have extensive knowledge in their respective fields and we encourage you to take advantage of this. The setting is generally affable. We believe this bridges a gap and fosters optimal learning. Enthusiasm and a pro-active approach to your elective gets you the most out of your mentors.
Health Care Overview
Malaysia’s population serves both public and private health sectors, with rather compliment each other. The basic health status of much of the Malaysians population has undergone significant improvements in the last couple of decades. This has been achieved through improved public health measures and by providing greater access to healthcare. With its life expectancy of 75 years, Malaysia is at a epidemiological transition state. The top five diseases reported by the ministry were were dengue fever, tuberculosis, food positioning, hand foot and mouth diseases (HFMD) and HIV/AIDS. Malaysia has been classified by WHO as an intermediate TB burden country, with the numbers in the past 20 years stagnating.

On arrival, we will be there at the airport to pick you up and take you to your housing facilities. Followed by a small refreshment time we will take you through an orientation session to help acquaint you with the people, culture, and life in the town.
The EI residence in our locations is spacious and comfortable, with a large communal area as well as private suites. Breakfast and dinner are included in your placement. Our Malaysians staffs are a friendly and knowledgeable lot who will take you around and make sure you get the most out of your time.
Transport services are provided to and from the hospital and volunteer placement locations. However, in cases where accommodation facilities are arranged close to volunteer and elective areas then a short walk across to the placement location does the trick. Once your program ends, transport is provided to the airport before we see you off.

Due to Malaysia's strict hospital rules and regulations, we require all participants to submit their complete application and paperwork 6 months in advance.
